WOW! EXCELLENT!!!

I've never heard of this game. After seeing this, in that case, it would be possible to play King's Field, a game very similar to this one on Apollo Core Amigas too!!!

I've played that game to the end at least 3 times.

Although, it won't be possible to do until the FPU is fully working. It's a system requirement to run FPSE.

APOLLO CORE'D AMIGAS RULE!!!!

(p.s. NO ONE can complain about the cost to buy vs. value of ownership ratio, with all of the systems that can be emulated with an Apollo Core'd Amiga. Especially in regards to the standalone that will be released eventually!)

Kings field ? I don't know that one is it an Amiga game?

It's a Sony PlayStation 1 game. A very slow, similar to what you played, 3D game on the PlayStation made by From Software (ASCII Entertainment) in 1994. WikiPedia has a page about it.

It has a really low frame rate and slows down a lot when more than 2 or 3 enemies are on the screen at once. I really enjoyed it, nonetheless. I wouldn't be surprised if the people that made Trapped had played it.

This new Amiga has a crazy amount of potential, I must say.

Ah ok , the Amiga now has PlayStation power !

If Doom and Quake can run well , then maybe Quake 2 and some RPG & RTS can too ...

Balders gate ...etc , maybe we can get some Linux games ported over now that we have some cpu power

That my friend is where this is heading - it truly is a game changer in more than just games ;)

It would be nice to see new software for the Amiga , descent web browser and movie player and all the rest of it..

Happy days

Mike, Quake II should run just fine.. BUT it still needs the FPU.
When the FPU is finally enabled, I imagine, QII will become the new "default" platform for potential mods on this new Vampire V2 platform.

(QIII is beyond the reach of the Apollo Core though, I don't remember ever seeing any software renderer for it. I remember playing it on an nVidia Riva TNT/TNT2 back in the day. Maybe one day we could have a Wazp3d driver optimized for Apollo's SIMD instructions, but thats all shrouded in mystery for now...)

Yes Quake 2 will become the new poster boy for the Amiga I imagine as more modern stuff is hardware 3D , perhaps with bigger version of the fpga we could see some hardware 3D ?

A big ask no doubt

Developing a 3D core is indeed a very big ask.
I think the team first wants to put the boards out (A500 and A1200 Vampire) and develop towards Gold Core for Apollo.

The only option would be put a CV643D in an A2000 (will be slow due to s3 virge and ZII slots)
Or hope that Mediator PCI+voodoo 3/4/5 card will work on A1200 with Vampire :)

Gunnar and friends already did a 3D core which was intended for Natami. But with the current space limitations in the FPGA I don't think it's going to happen in the vampire.

If a 3000/4000 version comes out I'll set my voodoo 3 up and try

I may be wrong, but I think this is not like the 3D core of Natami. This would be more like Cell cpu. Vector units would work 3D calculation. I do not know how many units you can put in 40,000 logic gates.

A modern web browser with all the appropriate bells and whistles would open up a huge range of applications. Some services like Spotify have web clients etc could really bring things forward a few decades

In my experience, assuming that you can get "A modern web browser with all the appropriate bells and whistles" for Amiga OS is not very realistic.

A) Amiga has not the horse power to usefully run a modern Browser like Firefox
B) Amiga has not needed gigabytes of main Memory to run Browser like Chrome or Firefox
C) The amount of coding needed to make the program compile and  run on AMIGA is so huge that very unlikely this will ever be ported.
D) Writing a new modern webbrowser from scratch for Amiga would a tremendous task, not very likely to happen.

Much more possible would be a console program :

This one is not written in C or C++ so not possible to easily port.

"The internet" is "just" a bunch of ASCII (or "binary") files on other computers' hard drives...... (I know that streaming is different, as in video/voice calls).

There is NO REASON that an "AMIGA" version of an "internet web browser" could not be made.

It would NOT use html or java or anything else that is considered "the norm", except for code necessary to interact with it to RETRIEVE or SEND files. We could set up our own standards, use IFF's and other AMIGA formatted file types.

That would be a BIG JOB to do, too. But there is at least one AMIGA internet web browser product still being developed... They might be interested in giving it a shot??

It would do less than modern day web browsers, but it would be smaller and faster. The files could be way less bloated and achieve  similar results.

linux? Ironically, I've been saying for 10 years, "you need a 50 GHz computer to run win.dos".

spotify ONLY uses 1,000 megabytes of RAM.... Luckily, ncspot, IF it was portable to Vampire (AMIGA), would ONLY need 46 megabytes of system memory.... WOOO-HOOOOO!!!!!!!

Then we too could "ROCK AND ROLL!!!"

Hang on people. Lets step back a minute...

How about trying to create something that is not just something a PC has done better already? Do you need your Amiga to pretend to be a laptop/smartphone? Its like using a Ferrari to plough a field.

I have absolutely no intention, or need to try and get a regular PC web browser on any Amiga and neither should anyone else. It would be painful.

Again, wanting Quake 3; The best version in my opinion is the original Quake, getting worse as they went on (though visually better, I will admit, although some were saying Q3 was basically just a tech demo/shell of a real game at the time and I agree). Yet another PC goalpost which would take a herculean effort just to say 'me too'.

If you try to be a PC, you will, however good the intentions are, fall short to a lesser or greater extent, as that is the target you are aiming for, not a better one; the best you can get would be exactly the same, it would just take you all that effort just to get level. Why bother?

The Amiga was always trailblazing, with the more expensive PC trailing behind. Ok, mid/late 90s the Amiga lost its way, but its back again now and so are some talented developers. (Hats off to Flype, for showing me the Matrix; his higher level assembly language constructs have opened my eyes to what is possible with 68k ASM!)

Why do we have to go after the PC games? Im pretty sure Gunnar is not going to go toe to toe with Nvidia/AMD, releasing cutting edge GPUs every few months. Lets do our own thing. Yeah, if you want to convert an old classic, fine. But lets develop new AMIGA games/apps for the AMIGA.

Think back to all the software unique to the Amiga in its heyday. People were really being creative back then. (Fun fact: lots of the big PC software actually originated on Amiga/ST/Mac).

Lets do it again now.

Sorry, just had my COVID jab today :/ hopefully that poison hasnt made my ramblings sound too insane! lol
