AlarCity - for Vampire?page  1 2 3

Greetings! :D

Some of you may have already heard about PixelGlass' upcoming AGA top down shooter: AlarCity

EXTERNAL LINK
We've been entertaining for some time now the thought of making a more advanced (and demanding) version of the game or add some extra features or eye candy that will require a more powerful cpu to run (btw the game currently runs perfectly on a vanilla a1200), so we'd like to see what Vampire owners think of this.

I know -of course- that AlarCity is not the killer app that could showcase the power of Vampire. It is however a brand new 68k title with high production values made by a developers team who's keen to support the platform.

So, what do you guys think? Would you like to see us adding extra features to the game for higher cpus or perhaps a special version just for Vampire?

PS: btw the game's available for preorder for anyone interested to support us: EXTERNAL LINK

It would be great to use all extra power of Vamp and just add 080 version. 2D cute shooter with nice music is always welclome!

Would buy at least one :-) Nice old school shoot em up. A digital release with lower price would help!

Even improved LumberJack and Tanks would great!

  Giana Sisters SE surely!

Some shareware/limited versions of Vamp ready executables should
be part of ApolloOS too ...

looks great fun! same, chalk me up for at least one here too.

I like the amount of action on screen. that was one thing I remember from the school yard amiga vs console wars - was how much extra on screen action there was for the console versions. be it parallax background scrolling on micromachines for the sega megadrive, to the background animations on the snes fighters. the amiga always seemed to loose out.

@Vojin Vidanovic: there's already an option for digital download with lower price ;)

If it was optimized for an A1200 with 040 @ 40mhz and RTG with some nice higher resolution, I’d be game! Also the posibility to play in widescreen ^^

I already have AlarCity on pre-order, but I WILL pre-order a separate Vampire version just to support such an effort.

Your game looks amazing, just like other games like Rowan from Amiten, and others. Im quite impressed with the increase in gamedevelopment lately, and Im defintly going to support any Vampire spesific efforts.

A more spectacular version of an already awesome game would be most welcome :) I'd buy one.

Thanks guys!

@John William: Well, no worries, nothing is set to stone yet. If Vampire support or extra features in this direction are implemented prior to release they could just be included into the finals. So, no seperate version. Or we could release a patch later or just give to those who have bought the game already free access to an enhanced version. We'll see ;)

It's all in the speculative region right now - of course. First we need to establish if there's solid demand from Vampire users for such a move, hense this thread.

Other than the demand itself, the other question is about a Vampire specific version or just a few enhancements for accelerated machines:
- A Vampire version would be massively more demanding in terms of extra work and might bring enhancements like bigger resolutions, many more effects, colors and extra eye candy. And obviously such a version will be worked on long after the current one is released.
- Enhancement add ons on the other hand are stuff that we could implement without the need for a massive redesign (still a lot of extra work though). F.e. more bobs on screen, a few extra effects and slightly bigger play area than the current one (still 320x256).

In any case, for anything Vampire specific we'd also need support from ppl with a better know-how on the machine, but I think we're obviously in the right place for this ;)

Since game is near to AGA release, vote for this one.

There are plenty CPU power, Picasso96 high RTG resolutions and 128mb memory at disposal compared to A1200 version. In short words difference could be "as from OCS to AGA" in gfx, plus room for extended or bonus levels.

@John Tsakiris:
I suggest that people start learning how to draw sprites fast with CPU on both high-end classic Amigas and the Vampire, in a similar way it was done on Pentiums before 3d gfx cards came along. You have two options on old Amigas; either use CPU instructions to draw directly into a planar framebuffer, or use a c2p to emulate a chunky display in fast ram (which generally requires more CPU power, but is more flexible).

The Vampire comes with chunky displaymodes in hardware and AMMX-instructions, so it's a different solution there, if you want fastest possible draw speed. The sprite and blitter hardware is also not done yet for SAGA to my knowledge.

Here are ideas:

    A) With the same binary/executable under the Option menu we get to select the CPU type the drop down menu:
        I) Apollo 68060/040/030/20
II) Apollo 68080 - AMMX (THIS MUST BE DROWNED WITH AMMX, OK?!! DRROOWNED! I want every benefit of AMMX used to enhance speed by like 600% fps if possible)
    B) Certain features disabled if  you select choice I as in more enhanced colors and multiplayer support. If you select choice two it switches to RTG mode and give the user the ability select the resolution of their choice but defaults to 800 x 600 when you select choice II.

    C) The higher the resolution the better detailed and sharp the quality of the graphics and the output of the graphics are enhanced beyond comprehension with 16 bit color quality but screaming in every way arcade/console quality that make you want to eat the colors out of your TV hehehe

    D) Provider multiplayer support where you can select different type of servers and it shows how heavy it is used and icon flag of the country the server is hosted. When the person enter the server it provides number of different rooms where it provides a total of maximum 8 players to play against. Here you play against everyone as a complete PvP and you fight the monsters to get the resources to build and customize better weapons and armors and who remains the last is the winner and the map is huge where you can hide, collect, build, etc and have build in chat system. This is only activated if you have vampire card with you.

CAN I SAY ONE THING? I don't mind subscribing 19.99 a month to pay for registration to play the online feature...I hope this support you guys to make BETTER AND BETTER AND BETTER AND BETTER CUSTOM CHIPSET/VAMPIRE GAMES AHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAA

I WANT ONLINE AMIGA GAMES NEW ONE

  - FALLS DOWN AND CRIES - I WANT ONE...JUST ONE!!! ONE SINGLE ONLINE GAME BRAND NEW, 2017/2018 THAT I CAN PLAY WITH PEOPLE AND USE MY KEYBOARD TO CHAT AND CHAT AND CHAT - sob - and play and fight and enjoy online!!

Lets start realistic:

-RTG support
-16 bit color depth
-Resolution requester
-support for wide screens

I think this then would make a very nice game i would most certain buy to play on my vampire.

What good does RTG support bring to the majority of the Amigas, i.e. classic ones (OCS/ECS/AGA)? It only slows them down, you need custom draw routines anyway, to get anything to work more smoothly.

I think an interesting question is, does the majority already have RTG support or will the majority of active AMIGAs users have RTG soon?

- De facto standard for 16/24 bit gfx on Amiga (goes beyond 256 col. not using HAM8)
- De facto standard for various gfx cards in similar fashion AHI did for sound (cards)
- Supported by last wave of games (Crossfire II, Descent, Exodus, Foundation Gold, Gloom 3,Napalm, Myst ...)

Some games, like Sim City 2000, are simply "promoted to gfx" while overall it offers faster drawing routines to AGA. RTG is chunky and does not have chuncky2planar conversion too.
