As title. i know there are loads of addition and enhancements, but how much faster are the new cards over the old ones, I'm only talking CPU here, not "the VGA is much quicker". How much more oomph are we talking? 25% ?

thanks.

Good question.  I'd love someone to run the povray "fish" render on the Icedrake (or Firebird) to see how fast it is.  My V2+ is a little bit slower than my V1200, for example, but it's hard to really notice a difference in day-to-day usage.

I think it also depends on the core (X11,X14, X16 etc)
When looking at the MIPS,  the V4(x16) is 31.2% faster then the V2 at 11x.
But this is synthetic, didnt notice reallife, but it can also be that the things i do are less demanding on the cpu..

Just a gues, can be wrong too ;)

This does depend a lot on what you are doing.
As both the V1200 and V4-Icedrake use the same 68080 CPU, the "normal" speed is very similar.

But there are some big differences in some areas.
All V4 cards (including Icedrake) have an improved FPU in some areas this can give a major boost.
Also all V4 provide 3D/Texture operations.
So new Playstation like games using these instructions will need a V4 series card.

i've put in some preliminary numbers in the p96 speed thread for the v1200v2 and icedrake

quake1 fps test
"timedemo demo2" 320x200@8bit
Icedrake 8695x12 - 19.7fps
Icedrake 8690x15 - 24.1fps
V1200v2 8594x12 - 19.8fps

network speed test
Icedrake 8695x12 v4net.device (v3) - 19mbs down, 16mbs up
Icedrake 8690x15 same as 8695 core - 19mbs down, 15-16mbs up
V1200V2 8594x12 v2expeth.device - 7.5mbs down, 5.5mbs up

quake2 "timedemo 1" then "demomap demo1.dm2" in the console:-
video 320x200@8bits
Icedrake 8695x12 - 11fps
Icedrake 8690x15 - 14fps
V1200V2 8594x12 - 10.6fps

POVray31 benchmark
Icedrake 8695x12 - 24 minutes 28 seconds
Icedrake 8690x15 - 20 minutes 29 seconds
V1200V2 8594x12 - 25 minutes 25 seconds

this's just what i've found so far.
