Floppy Issue

I am having issues with the Vampire 500 V2+, Coffin RXX and Amiga 500+ Mainboard. When putting in a disk on workbench mode, the disk will be read normally, but have some seconds, it stopps reading and asking for putting back the disk again in the diskdrive, although it is inside (never pushed the eject buttom). To continue the reading, I have to confirm, that the disk in the drive. What can that be? Can the Vampire Team check, if the floppy mode works correctly? I have the feeling, that the high performance of the 68080 is WAY TOO FAST to operate with the slow floppy mode???
As always: A BIG THANK YOU AND HONOR OF YOUR GREAT TEAM WORK!

The vampire doesn't boost any of the Floppy I/O, it runs the same speed as originally designed.

I have absolutely no problems with the Floppy with both of my vampire setups. That said I've had similar issues in the past and needed to service my drives, one drive needed the loading mechanism cleaned and re-lubricated, the issue was it was binding up occasionally causing the disk to not load fully causing it not to be close enough to the read/write heads. This was a tricky issue as it appeared to fully insert the disk, but just wasn't loaded fully and the mechanism only needed to travel like 1mm more.

I also clean the heads every other year or so.

The issue you are experiencing is common. The Disk Inserted/Ready switch is either dirty or defective. It gets activated (pushed down) when you insert a disk and tells the Amiga a disk has been inserted or removed. It may become intermittent when activated which will cause the headaches you are witnessing.

The Switch in question is part of the dual switch that is located on the Left side of the Drive where the disk is inserted (just inside the opening). The Outside part of switch is the Write Protect, the other half is the Disk Inserted/Removed detect. You can try to spray the switch with contact cleaner or drop some rubbing alcohol into it. The switch is partially sealed but cleaner can be leak into it enough to clean the switch contacts. Once applied, press down and release the switch several times to help the cleaner to its trick.

I hope this helps.
