V2+ Optimize IDE Speed

Hello Vampires,

I am looking to optimize IDE speed of my V2+.

Currently I am getting around 6,5MB/Sec transfer to my CF (Sandisk Ultra - 50MB/s) measured by Sysinfo on WB 3.1.4 running Core 2.12 with ID=3 set by vControl.

Do you have quick tips on how to get to the 20MB/s rang or point me in the right direction?

Much appreciated.

What do you get using the build-in Kick 3.10 and on Coffin?

Clean flash 2.12, clean baked Coffin R55 I get 12MB/Sec on Sysinfo

Compact Flash is notoriously hit-or-miss. Most controllers only "barely" support the legacy PIO modes and will not preload the next 512 byte sector until the previous one has been completely cleared. Really it comes down to either trying random cards until you find a brand that works well, or grab a mid 90's real 2.5" IDE HDD with real PIO mode support. These tend to give solid better-than 16MB/s performance.

Also, be sure scsiquicker is running. It makes a difference.

Hi Renee.

I've never heard of scsiquicker before, but it sounds very intriguing. Is it safe to use with a Compact Flash card formatted with the latest pfs3aio on a Vampire V2? I wouldn't mind trying it out but wanted to check first.

Absolutely. It was specifically made with the Vampire and Compact Flash in mind but doesn't do anything especially harmful.

Usually older CF-cards works better than newer ones with "UDMA7", etc. Also a higher core ratio affects to the transfer speed. For me Kingston "Flower" gives 13MB/s with Gold 2.12 x12 on V500.

Hello all,

There is a internal link on this forum with my tests from different type of harddrive and device to convert IDE to SATA.

I remember some posts in this forum with IDE transfer speeds up to 20MB/Sec to a CF. Were those achieved with experimental core-ratio's? Or other settings that are different from the production release cores?

With overclocked core + real 2.5" IDE HDD.

Check, thanks for the quick and clear reply. I will be (more than) satisfied with the 12MB/s on my CF. Good to know there is not an optimization I have missed.
