I totally agree. Even a 4.5 mb/s speed on ide is better than 3. Leave the feature off then give instructions on how to enable/find optimal speed. This would be the perfect solution.

I am sure we are not the only ones, it is a nice feature to try out after being teased with it before

It would be good to make a change in the command itself so that you could give it a ”speed” argument. Let’s say:

FastIDE -s 4.3

Would set the speed to roughly (or why not exactly, if possible?) 4.3 MB/s
Or

FastIDE -s 5

Would set it to 5 MB/s

Let’s say you’d try those, 4.3 works like a charm, 5 fails, you’d try 4.4, it fails (highly unlikely, but as an example), then you’d set it to 4.35, see how that works, and this way you could tweak your A600 speed to what the chip in your particular machine can perform

From the footage I saw, it was already controled from the command libe using the apoke utility.

Probably not difficult to make a suit tool to test writing and reading a file to test you are not missing any data and such as a quick validation to test your settings.. I'd be happy with an extra meg/s.. Every little counts
