"The Atari ST in particular had gotten an early lead because, despite it’s relatively primitive OS (we called it “CP/M with windows”) it came with built-in Midi ports. For the Amiga, you needed an extra hardware adapter to convert the output of the Amiga’s serial port into something that was Midi-compatible.
