AROS is a great OS alternative for AMIGA.

AROS is great but not yet perfect.
Maybe you can help us test AROS on Vampire4?

Below you can find the JIC for the CORE and an AROS CF Image.
The CF-Image is based on OLAFs great AROS Distro, and with help from Cotter. So thanks Olaf and Cotter!
The image is very OS 3.1 like, and includes some old MOD,DEMO and even some games like RESHOOT-R-Vampire Demo Version

  CLICK HERE
  AROS8.hdf.z
  CLICK HERE

It would be great if you help test it.
Everyone of us can help to test and can help to report bugs.
And maybe some those of us which can program might even help improve some stuff.

Feedback and ideas are welcome, please post them here

  * If you want to copy more files to this AROS image, then you can mount SD-Card by typing in SHELL
      mount SD0:

  * AROS also supports the Vampire4 Network HW, and you can access the Internet with AROS

  Features:
  * F11 toggles Scanline ON/OFF for retro look.
  * F12 toggles TurtleSpeed ON/OFF for less Mips for better legacy compatibility.

It seems quite solid.  Not as pretty as Caffeine but there is always beauty to simplicity.

The screen mode preference editor seems to flicker for me.

The Network preference editor doesn't forget settings like it did in Caffeine........I am happy about that.

For look and feel, I still prefer Caffeine but this is a really great setup as well.  I could get used to this.

I am happy about that

It is a different concept... 3.1 look and feel and not as much colors as possible ;)

  other distributions will do that

I use magellan so a lot of formats can be played or shown by double click (I have for my version just added sid, avi, iff-anim and mpg)

I would compare it to the castles of King Ludwig here. It looks old but in reality all is new and behind the scenes everything is modernized ;)

Any chance of this AROS image working on a V2, I'm told that perhaps booting from floppy may be needed?

The V500 V2 has an onboard IDE interface, so if they have got the V4 SA booting over IDE I would expect them to be able to get it working there too. V1200 may be a bit more complicated with both motherboard and Vampire IDE/Gayle to deal with. With V600 again you have the motherboard interface to deal with. AROS 68k and the V600 have been around for a long time so...

SD card booting would be nice to have too. Mike Stirling's FPGA accelerator prototype now has SD Card booting on normal Kickstart ROM by emulating IDE between his SDIO controller and his Gayle implementation. TG68 is also playing catch-up to the Apollo core.
