I want to create a version of Aros Vision that runs on Vampire V4 and is imitating 3.1 as much as possible

This is great, a lot of people are asking for this type of look!

Nice. Need :)
I assume that it will be V2 compatible?

Its all fine and dandy, thanks :)

Just one Q: Why not a bit OS 3.5/OS 3.9 modern-glow-new icons style?

It will "compete" against AmiKit XE, give it a look too.
And pack much power under the hood :)

there will be enough more colourful distributions I am sure ;)

Caffeine f.e. is more colourful too (and I assume that there will be others too)

my idea is to get as near as possible to 3.1 (including look)

yes it should work on V2 too

currently there is a IDE problem at booting on V2, it seems to be a specific timing problem. One of the aros devs got the necessary hardware so I am optimistic that it will be solved. Then Aros should run on V2 too.

The whole point of Olaf's setup is that this stuff isn't included, so why ask? It gives the user the opportunity to either keep it the way it is and have it look like a basic OS 3.1 installation, or to customize the look how he/she wants.

Nice one Olaf!

under the hood I add components like a preconfigured whdload and add lots of libraries

the commands in C are covering almost all AmigaDOS commands

the look & feel after booting shall be like 3.1 (as much as possible)

Yeah.

I like the minimalistic look, while having more modern functionality (in Amiga terms :) ).

If someone wants a more colorful/blinged out version, there are always Coffine, Amikit, the AROS distro AMIGASYSTEM is working on etc.

It comes down to speed and responsiveness for me, over bling.

Thumbs up for your effort Olaf! :)

I like it.  It looks really clean and just that simple clean cut look gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling.  Really nice work!

When can we start testing this?  :-)

very cool ! look much better than the terrible old gnome icons that the default aros use, and the windows borders.

@Olaf

One thing tho;

Will you include "quality of life" features like preinstalled usage of the V4 network protocol (whatever that might mean down the road).

Ive used Roadshow (register copy) and Miami (not quite registered), but hopefully this will be a thing of the past with V4.

Are you planning any other programs/applications/underlying systems to be part of the distro?

I of course would like to include all what is available including network as soon it works

I limit it to 100 MB so I will not include many additional programs. After the basic distribution works I will certainly do a bigger one including more software

At the moment it includes many additional libraries, more or less all AmigaDOS commands (either Aros ones or replacements), full working WHDLoad (using aros roms to replace amiga roms) and google drive handler. The rest are the aros components

what I forgot

it is based on magellan as desktop and of course many sound and graphic formats preconfigured to show/play by doubleclick

icons are freeware icons in 3.1. style (as visible on screenshot)

at the moment I work on menues and shortcuts (of course shall be as similar as possible too)

Well that does look good.  I've just expressed my interest in a Vampire4 Standalone. I had originally put my name down for the Vampire V1200 V2 accelerator card, but decided the standalone was a nicer option for me.  I get to keep my A1200 as it is and have a new Vampire Amiga in it's own case with more memory.  I shall look forward to trying out Aros Vision when I get my V4.  Ray

I have uploaded current version (for UAE) of my base distro and would like that people outside test it and give feedvack

From my point of view (GUI, integrated software and so on) the final (vampire) version of my distribution will be the identical. I would like to get feedback what I should change or optimize, what additional I should integrate and so on and how the general impression is.

Download conditions like on my regular download page

here is the link: EXTERNAL LINK
as I wrote... not final package just for testing/first impression and to give feedback

The final version is planned to be available also as preconfigured HDF file for Vampire

One thing is different... instead of integrating rom and ext files please just integrate boot/amiga/kick.rom in rom (no ext file)
