Personally, I believe its Amitropias PR attention stunt, since seems Vamp crowd was not informed :) But we are about to correct that

  ------------ AmiTropia poll ---------------
  EXTERNAL LINK
Help the Apollo Team to decide where to go with
  their new Amiga Compatible motherboard
  Vampire V4 Standalone

Happy New Year 2020 to all of you!

Now its time to tell what you think is the correct path for the new Vampire V4 Standalone Amiga Compatible motherboard from Apollo Team

Amitopia Amiga Magazine is supporting the Apollo Team and all of the Amiga Community so that the Amiga future is promising for everyone. We were asked to put this here because of many retailers and Apollo Team. We hope that this will help sales.

  Current results:
What OS should be proposed by reselers as an option for the Vampire V4 Standalone ?
  AROS?129 ( 22.59 % ) AmigaOS 3.1.4?335 ( 58.67 % ) TOS?107 ( 18.74 % )

P.S.
I wonder did 107 Atari lovers voted for EmuTOS since its easy to get one and it would make you run only FreeMINT, with Netsurf  :)

AROS is the OS Vampire have chosen for legal reasons. I also see AROS as a open source OS much more fit for a possible Amiga NG future.
What I think and hope will happen is that Vampire stand alone will get some Amiga license so it can use the Amiga name. That will help it a lot. I also think that the stand alone must come in different versions with different price. If you buy the basic version you can upgrade without buying new hardware. It is like you buy "lite" version of software or chip an car engine. If a basic version would be something like advanced Amiga 500 more RAM etc. and could sell for 200 Euro I think there could be a nice market. Make some deal with game developers to include games or demo of games and market it as a Amiga compatible mashine.

What is the point of this thread exactly?

If they had a V4 with a €400 FPGA I would consider it.

I agree that AROS is the best way forward, if Hyperion made 3.1.4 public domain (if that's even possible) there might be something to consider.

Currently i want to be able to choose between AOS 3.1.4/3.2 or AROS.

I don't see AROS as a good current option, but it has the potential to beat AOS3.1.4. My crystal ball is to foggy to know what the future holds. Perhaps they will both improve and remain as good choices.

Possibility for people to vote on Amitropia, since it relates.
If they find it important, ages

Also seems people enjoy to express their likeness e.g. AROS or OS 3.1.4/3.2

Mine is OS 3.9 and AROS m68k and I dont find Amitropia news that amusing, merely I find it amusing as it calls in behalf of team and the community.

It is kind of irrelevant what people vote.  AROS is coming.  No poll will change that.  And it will be better than most expect.

Also, if you consider it a PR stunt by Amitopia, your posting it here just facilitates the stunt.

What ever the outcome, users will always have the option to install their preferred version.

AROS is the future...built by the Amiga community and owned by the Amiga community. Look forward to the day when it surpasses AmigaOS.

Not if I say I consider it a stunt. Well, could pass by, but having majorily an AOS vote would be a bit false.

And yes. AROS is coming any which way.

Promoting AmigaOS doesn't help Vampire V4.

Look how fast is the Aros development since Apollo Team and Aros Team are collaborating. It would have been faster and now we would be on much more advanced point if that collaboration would have been started before...

Aros + Vampire is the only legal way to advance, so better not to confuse people talking about AmigaOS.

Tell it to Amitropia :)

Hypes AOS is legal way to advance their pockets :) In my experience with OS4

What I think is important is that the Vampire hardware get the Amiga logo, license. There is simply no other business for Amiga in the future than to hand out license to existing products. What OS it runs people don't care as long as it is working ;)

Vojin, who started this thread...? :)

For me it doesn’t matter what is posted on other places regarding AmigaOS, I have read the same during more than 20 years and no advance on the right way at all... Only wrong decisions, wrong hardware and infiniteless hopes.

There was AROS before but it didn’t expanded because there was no standard hardware setup, so it was a titanic effort to cover driver development and compatibility on X86, still it is, and It will be forever and ever, same happens on ARM, despite Raspberries. Now we have Vampire, so the way is extremely CLEAR now... Hardware and Software can be adapted and evolved together, so no limits... Why to focus energy and effort on the WRONG OSes (this include Amiga OS and Linux at this moment) just now?

Focusing energy on the right threads will help much more to Vampite, AROS , developers, users and the whole Amiga community.

even then... Aros includes much more components than 3.1 (f.e. RTG, AHI, network stack, USB)

Aros is rapidly evolving now and there is a tight cooperation between aros team and apollo/vampire team where both sides benefit. The survey simply is silly pretending to be official (what is certainly not the case) and wrong because of claiming 3.1.4 would offer some sort of future in sense of development. 3.1.4 only exists because two developers offered to do it for free and Hyperion can make money with it. Thor (one of the developers) clearly stated it is about legacy and he will not add anything specific (including vampire), Hyperion itself has no resources and interest in 68k as market (except to win there potential buyers for PPC hardware). So end of game. 3.1.4 will work on vampire of course but Aros is the only opportunity to preinstall a full working system and avoid legal problems. In a couple of months the only interesting part from outside left will be the brand name "amiga". Of course there will still be people who will prefer 3.1 for nostalgic reasons but that will be decision of the buyers. And Aros works with 3.1 roms without problems anyway. Some people (like I when I hopefully buy V4 this year) are mainly interested in Aros, others only in 3.1 and a third group will use both.

Besides the roms of 3.1 will never become open source because of one reason... money can be made with it. Neither Cloanto nor Hyperion has a interest to make the roms free. So I do not believe that this will ever happen.

Me, but dont shoot the messanger :-) Idea was to reverse false impression we Are pro 3.1.4 mostly.

I do understand why Amitropia offered OS 3.1.4 but then again I AM dissapointed Hype Did  nothing in it to at least ID Vamp or included SAGA drivers as install option.

I AM fully with your vision and analysis, as I own OS4 Classic, od 4.1 sam440, os 4.1 Fe x1000 with enhancer and have even prepaid os4.2 on x1000 purchase.

There Are visual, video driver and under the hood small advancem nts to os 3.1 (not having all oS3.9 feats even now), but a lot wrong decissions, too little, too expensive, too closed and tied to exclusive junk a1 line(Acubes Mac mini os4 port was killed).

Me too :) Used to believe in promises, but only in deliveries.
  Reason why Apollo stands high.

Highly unlikely, since name is Amiga Inc resource.

And after CUSA Amiga Mini and similar debacles, I do like new names.
Its AROS/AmigaOS apps and games that matters.
