Hmmmm Gayle :)

Gayle replaced Gary in the A600 and A1200. It also incorporates the control logic for the PCMCIA and internal ATA interface on these systems.

An A500 with Gayle is a rare thing ;)

An A500 with build in IDE is rare.
But not any longer as Vampire 500 provides IDE.

Awesome!!  I'm guessing the vast majority of Classic Amigas still around are 500s..

I hope what you say is true!! I really want that the Vampires is different reflecting on the system it is attached on:

  1) A600/A500 (low end Amiga with low end Vampire)
  2) A1200 (still low end but higher and superior over said A600/V500. It gets a super Vampire that is better than said V500/V600 for example)
  3) etc

I feel like the good old days are back all over again. New Amiga models with better specs and better acceleration for example hehe and there might be possible different apps and games version for each spec. It may also be an A1200/A4000 exclusive title again heheh because it needs more RAM or faster speed and/or even new graphics registry custom chipset that A500/600 users for example cannot get :D

I'm not sure it's good idea to make different Vampire card for each model. One or more types is ok, but it should depend of Vampire components (max card speed), but not of Amiga model. I think We cannot ask for making "low end" Vampire cards for low end Amigas. Someone (like me) just don't like big amigas, I love A500, CDTV and A1200 cases, so why I should use slower Vampire?
Apollo core give us a chance to use low end models with high speed, and that is cool. Of course A500 has different HW than A4000 and mayby A4000 can work better with Vampire because is better designed and I understand that. But I can't understand situation Vampire will be better for High end models, because they're High end.

I have a question about it..(maybe gunnar can answer??) when the amiga 1200 version is  announced, is there going to be a list and a fixed price on this website or elsewhere? it would be a great thing if everybody gets a change to get such an amazing product instead of the amiga hoarders with the deepest pockets.. ;)

thanks to the apollo team and all others involved in this great project..

Lets try to discuss this in some orderly manner.
This thread was to inform people that the internal testing of V500 is in progress.

:-)

I propose that for V1200 questions we can start a new thread.

Do you plan clockport for Vampire 500 ? It would be fine for clockport expansions (f.a. USB)

doesnt look like that, but isnt clockport a very limited expansion port and also very dangerous. potentially impossible to support, since there is no way to secure connector being used the right way.

Where's the argument? While some people kill their USB clockport cards by mounting them the wrong way around, most simply enjoy the existing solutions. Which currently are the only way to get USB into A500/600 & A1200. E.g. the Subway works like a charm with the Vampire 2.

And btw.: There are enough guys who kill their Zorro card by sticking them into the slots upside down...
