Apollo Team would like to share the first results from an internal project we started a few months ago.
This project is an experimental exercise to explore the possibilities and limitations of Apollo V4 Series.
We took upon ourselves the challenge to make a port of “Robin Hood - Legend of Sherwood” (RHLOS).

RHLOS is a great RPG Game from SpellBound released in 2002 and intended for Pentium PC’s (233Mhz/64Mb).

We are porting the newer version which is using SDL 2.0 (Simple DirectMedia Layer)  which requires 1Ghz+ (1000 Mhz) Pentium CPU!!!
For any Amiga with from (A500) to 68060 CPU this would be a mission impossible, but we are confident that the AMMX/SAGA powered Apollo V4 Series can achieve a reasonable game speed.

Current stage of the project is that we have succeeded in getting the Game somewhat up-and-running on V4.
The FPS is obviously not on the level that we would like it to be, but basic gameplay is already possible . . .

For Compiling we used the ApolloCrossDev setup for Linux which is another (beta) project from Apollo Team.
Graphics routines are changed from SDL based API’s to native Apollo Blit and Scroll routines, partly in ASM.
Sound routines are also rewritten and our now using Apollo Arne instead of the SDL routines.
There is still some work to be done on the mixer and effect routines, but we are confident to make that work also.

There is still a lot of work te be done to get RHLOS up to a level where it could be released in any form or shape.
But we share this first results with you with the intention to raise interests within the Amiga (development) community.
If you feel you have the skills and time to help us in this project, we are looking for you to join us !!! (please PM me on Discord @WillemDrijver).

This game is truly one of the best adventure games out there - especially if you are a fan of Robin Hood.

This is 2D graphics at its finest - the zenith of what "old games" have to offer in terms of beauty. Everything is highly detailed, and you feel immersed into medieval England as you sneak into multiple, populated castles and cities and use tactical maneuvers to get past guards.

The game also has a nice ambushing system where you boost your economy by laying traps and intercepting armed supply caravans.

Lastly, the combat is fairly awesome too, with Robin slashing his sword in the direction you move your mouse.

10/10 would definitely recommend if you love slow paced games with flair and character.

The current MAC and PC versions of the game have pretty high requirements of minimum 512 MB memory and 1000 MHz CPU.

The true Spirit of Amiga is to use the combination of good coding on the coder friendly 68K CPU combined with using the DMA features of the smart Amiga chipset.

Using this combination of good coding and Amiga Chipset the Amiga could always achieve great games  - where you needed a much higher clock PC to do the same.

The Amiga port of Robin Hood does follow this "Only Amiga makes it possible" Spirit again - and shows what you can do with 68K AMMX coding and using the DMA of the Super-AGA chipset.

Another little test play of Apollo Robin Hood
The brand new Amiga game "Robin Hood" continues to saga of Defender of the Crown.

"Defender of the Crown" is the game that probably sold more Amiga computers in North America in 1986 more than any other. At the time, the graphics were nothing short of revolutionary compared to literally everything else, including the arcades, and it blew open the minds of consumers to what was possible in the home computer market. It was clear that "Only Amiga makes it possible".

Finally after long waiting "Apollo Robin Hood" continue this saga.
Robin is truly one of the best adventure games out there - especially if you are a fan of Defender of the Crown or Robin Hood.

Latest realtime footage from our alpha version of Robin Hood - legend of Sherwood experimental port to Amiga/Apollo. This video shows the integrated "RiVA" based video playback (640x360@23.98fps) which is the current maximum on native Apollo V4 hardware. Intro plays right before actual gameplay and can be skipped with ESC key by user.

Looking good. Not really my type of game but im sure you will pull it of. Lets hope for lots of new games in 2024 that take advantage of the SAGA. My V4 is gathering dust holding out hope with you talented coders.

Sometimes it makes you said the first thing on intro
videos which has to be discussed is “how do we skip them?”
And we had the same as you do with robin hood - in my
Case with my recent (updated) Heretic2 port - “how do you
abort the video ?”

Good work on Robin hood btw this looks great, a title
Which is perfect for the vampire;)

Best regards,
Steffen

AHAHAH! I can hardly wait to play this on my Amiga 500. I will play this game and looking at the C= logo sticker and an Amiga 500 that looks like a Commodore 128 hahahah or C64c and running this high end graphics and I will be grinning. My head will be swimming hard hahaha

Best part! Any time I want too, I can just use workbench 1.3 emulator on coffin and enjoy that Workbench 1.3 experience again on my A500 which makes sense haha and by quitting whdload I teleport back to the future hahahah!
