A native 16bit AHI audio driver for the SAGA audio chip ARNE is included in the upcoming Apollo OS release6.

Many thanks to Juan and Skipp for their work here.

Amazing work team! will this work in Coffin too or is it just for use only in ApolloOS?

Hope new AHI driver will reach Aminet :) And became part of SAGA drivers if V4 is detected :)

So many improvements are coming in R6, that's a huge amount of work and much appreciated.

Now serial in / out / midi is essential!

This is technically possible (as is everything!) But major limitations are around the physical hardware interface due to voltage differences. A hardware add on may be possible one day, but that will require quite a lot of work, and is currently beyond he immediate scope of the v4 development plan. You will be the first to know if it is, though!

Let us not forget the V4 has 3 expansion headers that could be leveraged in someway.

Yup, but voltage conversion still required. Not recommended for the average user, as damage to the v4 can easily occur.

Gunnar: This is very cool and I don't mean to keep bothering everyone about serial devices on v4+! I know that it would take a tremendous amount of effort. I'm just mainly dreaming out loud.  haha

I'm not easily offended by anything and I am okay if the answer is just that it's tremendously difficult and may never come. The 16 bit audio itself is so incredibly cool I know there will be a lot done with it regardless.

Thank you for everything you guys do!

Agreed, but dream is that one day those FPGA expansion ports could be used to have some "Amiga expander" with serial, parallel, floppy port, RCAs, clock port, MIDI, even extra PSU unit with molex connectors and also fast IDE or even SATA enabling use of DVD RWs and SSDs ... a way to use existing Amiga Classic hardware and drivers, and maybe add a bit of new - more towards personal but modern full computer.

However, its small form factor, with additional effort could be basis for something similar like ZX Spectrum Next or C65 or Pi 400 "back to computers in keyboard form factor", which would be more Amiga appealing.

Like SX expansions used to transform CD32 to A1200 with CD and beyond :)

Hope someone will made it, making V4 shine!

FPGA tiny low power form factor is amazing from one perspective, limiting from the other. This is good example: we finally have 16-bit CD quality sound, but no way (beside DIGITAL-VIDEO sound splitter) to re-route sound to hi-fis, or to use MIDI.

I have a HIFI connected to my audio out on my monitor.
This works fine and is super simple.

Oh yes, those monitors/Tvs that have RCAs of their own could save the day :)

Anyway, hope never dies, so I do hope some future FPGA board redesigns can be more full-computer like then developer like. For sake of end user happiness :)
FPGA Arcade is nice example - with Audio Jack  Mini ITX format compatible AND/OR MEGA 65 with supports for floppy drives via IEC Port and Battery-backed real-time-clock

Gunnar has said many times that V4 will not be redesigned - as it is now is how it will be so that the team can focus all of their attention on making it the best it can be. I dont understand why so many people keep asking for a V5 or a ITX version, the form factor IMO is perfect and my only gripe would be not having a usb port that i can run with posioden.

You are spot on.
We see the V4 as stable platform.
The V4 will be produced in this form for many years to come.

I think that V4 is a platform which will encourage many coders to develop new Software for Amiga.

Exactly, besides V4 was only recently redesigned anyway - the latest V4+ boards have April 2020 signature!

I mean, come on, why not appreciate what is already done for a change?

I don't understand why people keep asking for yet another hardware revision when they did not even explore the EXISTING potential of the V4. They did not scratch the surface of V4's power that is ALREADY AVAILABLE.
