| MAJOR NOTICE FROM TEAM APOLLO: SHIPMENT DELAYS FOR ALL VAMPIRE V2 CARDS Team Apollo acknowledges and apologies for significant delays in shipping of Vampire V2 accelerator cards to customers, some of which have been waiting for many months. We have invested significantly to increase production capacity over the past 6 months, and now have hundreds of units waiting to ship for many weeks. However, we have had a halt in Amiga Kickstart licences from our supplier due to legal issues currently being resolved in the US courts, and have not been able to ship for many weeks. We have been asked to wait until these issues are resolved, before further licences can be sent to us. We understand that this is of significant concern to those waiting for their Vampire V2 cards. Effective immediately Apollo Team are spending significant time and effort to provide an ApolloOS based ROM solution for the Vampire V2 cards, to enable us to ship our backlog of cards whilst our supplier’s legal issues are resolved. This project is being fast-tracked to ensure our customers get their cards as soon as possible. Expect timely progress reports from the Apollo Team on this and other topics in the coming weeks. Please note that this does not affect the Vampire V4 product, which do not require Amiga Kickstart licences, and continue to ship on schedule. The complete Apollo Team thanks you deeply for understanding the situation and we hope that we can count on your support in our effort to revive the Amiga into a bright future.

| It must be an impressive sight. Hundreds of cards on the shelves in the warehouse. Can we enjoy some photos at least?

| I'm a bit excited to see an ApolloOS solution for the V2 Vampires honestly.

| I don't get it, V2 are accelerators boards so why do you need a kickstart license as the owner of the Amiga who buy a V2 do already have one when he/she bought her Amiga. I'm surely missing something I guess? There's software available on Aminet to dump the KS ROM to a file and it is perfectly legal to do so.

| Gunnar: What about putting a notice in the packaging of the card saying a Kickstart 3.1 ROM is mandatory and *MUST* be present in the machine for legal reasons (even though the card bypasses it)? Would that cover you legally?

| I will repeat till die... AROS is the only way to continue with, as Kickstart and full OS. All other options have led, lead and will ALWAYS lead to legal troubles. Any solution? Investing 100% of your software development time in AROS-ApolloOS ONLY, and forget about who is guilty... No more AmigaOS related battles that finally will damage your product. What is really important is to achieve maximum compatibility with AmigaOS, no matter how long does it takes. Obtained benefit will ever be bigger.

| None of this would have mattered if you weren't insisting on shipping an (unnecessarily) hacked-up AmigaOS Kickstart in the Vampire's flash. It would have been easy to just pick up the Kickstart image from the mainboard and provide the Vampire support modules from the proper location in address space. None of the problems with software based kickstart update modules (3.9,3.1.4) would have surfaced. This SNAFU is entirely your fault and yours alone. |
Why such hush words? Surely additional resources are needed to run Vampire. What would be alternative? Software patching like OS 3.9 glue code? Build your own Remus Kickstart? I assume team wants to protect some of its own development, so its far better to have it in ROM. Software patching also usually ment kind of double reset and additional loss of RAM. People always wanted out of box working solution, and as Igor explained many times, problem of Amiga world is that there is no clear, known, ownership of such patents. 3.1.4 is not a good example, as completely new KS. FUBAR is Amiga situation :) Hope this resolves soon, and V2 wait lines and overkill second hand prices become things of past and legend.

The V500 cards fit much better with kick roms removed. Therefore going for an mainboard rom is not always a solution. Also for A1000 users that the Kick is inside the Vampire is a major advantage.

Essentially Vamp ROM gives KS 3.1 plus fixes level to everyone. There are no similar solution, except hard way of building tested Remus AmigaROM and using new baked ROM chips. AROS ROM might as always be the workaround. Hopefully, Igor will continue V2 cards production, so once matter is resolved, there will be opposite situation.

| At least those lawsuits forced the community to improve AROS 68k so Apollo OS, this is maybe the most significant advancement in the Amiga history along all good 68k HW. Congrats.

What about A1200 if I already have KS3.1 installed?

| There are people who talk in a negative way about the Apollo team. However, you have to hand it to them when they work this hard to actually release an Amiga OS fork for their hardware to work better! Surely thats dedication? Keep up the good work team! Cant wait to try it out on my A500 v2+!

| Just a question: If all new V2 cards are going to be shipped with the AROS ROM and we order one of those, will we still be able to replace it with a legally purchased Kickstart ROM via a tool similar to something like VampireFlash? With all due credit to the team, I think it's great that they are continuing to develop AROS, and I encourage it, as it gives users an expanded choice of alternatives. I would like to purchase another V2 very soon but, for myself personally, I'm not interested in using AROS as I wish to continue to use AmigaOS with a Kickstart ROM. Hence the reason why I'd like to know if we can replace he ROM ourselves.

| Hi Sean, Yes, you will still be able to Flash or Map your own ROM's.
