That is the point!  Something changed in the core later that changed the behavior and broke the AmiKit CF.  It was around the time kicking kick.rom from SD was sadly removed.

I'm not against the solution per-se.  I think there are breakdowns in language or something because this should not be a complicated thing.  It is simple.  AmiKit was designed and tested on 7383.  It properly remapped to your desired ROM and worked perfectly.  Then, I believe after R4, AmiKit stopped booting.  So Jan is not at fault.  He tested and released a product that worked on an RC core.  Apollo changed something and it seems there is no solution.  Seems boot times takes precedence over ecosystem.  I don't know. Regardless, if changes are going to fundamentally change the boot process, that should have been well communicated in advance.  I'm sure Jan would have appreciated that so he could warn his install base ahead of time.  His tech support load skyrocketed.

Can you elaborate more on what you mean by "locked"?  I always kicked from SD using a 45.64 ROM to avoid the AROS ROM (when I was allowed to) and never had problems mounting and unmounting the SD card to transfer files.  There must be some other lock I am not aware of.

For those who wish to decide is AmiKit good, 2017 version (AmiKit X) is now free to download for Linux, Windows and macOS X *Pay what you want option (can be purchased for 0.00)

Its a bit older software and games then those included in current AmiKit XE-AmiKit Vampire, but a way big improvement to (until now only) free AmiKit 8 - AmiKit Real.

I'm not a user of AmiKit but I do kick AmigaOS ROM from SD card still being at core 7383.
I've planed to upgrade during Christmas holidays.
Are you saying that after upgrading to RELEASE4 the right-click mouse press will not load the kick from SD card anymore?

yes, you can no longer load kick from sd card. The core is now for Aros / emutos.

Lets prevent misunderstandings here:

The Vampire V4 always comes and always came with ApolloOS/Aros Kickstart!
Of course you can load any Amiga kickstart with a simple shell command, and you can also permanently flash any Amiga kickstart into the card using a simple command.

You can run any AMIGA OS on it - ranging from Kick 1.1 to OS 3.9 (including OS 3.1, 3.1.4 , Coffin, Amikit).

We lets warn customer of the Amikit CF.
With the current partitioning the CF will not boot.
Fixing this partition layout would IMHO be in the interest of the users.

I have removed some advertising posts.
Until the partition layout is fixed - its not appropriate to again advertise here. It would be nice if you respect this.

Please only post again advertisements when the layout is corrected.
Selling non-booting CFs caused already enough frustration for the users.

Thank you

Yes this works.
Of course you can both maprom and you can flashrom kickstarts.
You can fully use any Amiga Kickstart in the V4.

On this wiki page there is still variant 2 listed: "Letting the Core load the Kickstart ROM image from an SD card during power-on initialization".
But this is what has been said in this thread that it doesn't work anymore? Is the wiki entry obsolete?

For variant 3: "Running a "FlashROM" program to install the Kickstart ROM image into the Core's flash memory" it is written that this method doesn't work on standalone vampire.

So this only leaves variant 1: "VampireMap".

Can you guys please bring the wiki page up-to-date if it is not?

The Flashrom program runs absolutely fine here.

Manfred if you need help, e.g. in how to use the shell tools, then I can really recommend you to join discord. Using the online chat will makes such Questions and answers really much faster and easier.
Its a lot quicker there to give help or share you a screenshot to show where to click etc.

OK, when I need adhoc help I will try Discord.
Mostly though I'm doing this on and off.

I was thinking about how this procedure should work.
I've realized that the V4 will not boot from my CF Card (with bootable SFS partition) with the AROS ROM.
So when I flash my ROM and upgrade to new core I'd have to flash again which then requires something bootable to be able to flash again.

Which then makes me think whether I should just update my CF card to be bootable also by the AROS ROM.
Is there a description somewhere for how the partition layout should look like?

Using the Aros Kick you can boot normal Amiga OS 3.1 Workbench install, AmigA OS 3.9 install or other Workbench with it.

Manfred maybe you can ping me on discord and give us more info what your layout is and how far in the booting you come. Does it not see your partition or does it list them? Does it boot them but fails on a SETPATCH executed in SS?
