Hi, has anyone managed to create a bootable version of the latest apolloOS RC1 other than people from the apollo team?
I have the same problems as most of the users when compiling, the line to replace in the sartup-sequence does not exist and for me the aros rom does not go into the directory indicated but at the root of the distribution apolloos_master. Would it be possible to have a working compiled version on a link in the same way as for COFFIN systems? That shouldn't be a problem since everything is free for distribution and rom aros.
Thank you in advance.

It is working. You don't have to compile anything. Just load the image and write it to a CF card.

Here is a premade image. Link is from Discord.

Of course you need to have the correct V4SA Core. Check the Wiki.

What are you trying to do exactly?  If you just want to try out ApolloOS, we have a ready made version already.  This boots for sure.

Join us on Discord for a link to the latest version.  You should know that this is still in testing.  While we are happy when people test it and provide feedback, there is some expectation that you are able to do at least basic troubleshooting yourself.  That is how it goes with early versions of stuff.

The current source code repository is currently just a copy of AROS with the non-m68k parts scrapped out and our 080 changes and drivers.  It doesn't build a fully functioning distro on a CF card.  I have been making small changes here and there to slowly bring it in this direction.

Might be that he is asking if this would run on a V1200? - if he isnt that is my question :)

Hi, By getting the version from Telegram I managed to run ApolloOS on my A1200. Next step be successful in using my 4xEIDE.

Well I asked that and Gunnar himself said yes.

If I connect my apolloOS flash compat to the motherboard IDE of lmon Amiga 1200, the system boots up fine. If I put the 4xEIDE on the IDE of the 1200 motherboard and the CF on 4xEIDE, I only have the image of the AROS rom waiting for bootable media.
I think there is a problem with the AROS rom because with the 3.1 and 3.1.4 roms I don't have this problem.
Unless it comes from the startup-sequence and the bad positioning of the line which declares the drivers of the 4xEIDE. I have a V1200 1D4 Commodore not Escom.

All Vampire boards are supported.  I test with a V4 and V1200 side-by-side.  I also test periodically with a V2 in an A500 and A600.  I tried once in an A2000 but it is more or less the same as an A500.

I think there is a problem with the AROS rom..........

You might be right.  There is code for the Elbox FastATA which supports 4 IDE devices.  I don't have such a device so I can't test.

A starting point would be to try a single disk (ApolloOS) and see if that boots.  If it does boot, then see how many disks you can add until it doesn't boot.

If it doesn't boot, then it is worth to see if it shows in early boot menu (holding both mouse buttons on power up).  This is tricky, because there are two.  First the one from kickstart (which you need to skip).  Then on first boot, it should load the AROS rom and reboot, at which point you need to hold both mouse buttons to catch the early boot menu.  You need to observe the slight dimming of the LEDs to know when it is rebooting after loading the AROS rom.

You will know it is the AROS early boot because it should say so at the top of the screen (if I recall correctly).  Then check if your disk is recognised.

If you can do that and report back, it would be really helpful.

My fear is, that the implementation in AROS is not complete.  The source code looks very minimalistic.  It might be that only 2 disks are supported.

Let us know how you go.

I have an Amiga A500 with V500 +. If I operate the CF card alone at the IDE connection of the V500 +, the ApoloOS starts. As soon as another drive is connected to the IDE connection (an SD card with adapter or an IDE SSD or the bsc Oktagon 508 (SCSI controller with hard disk)), it no longer starts properly. Either I see a software failure or a black and white AROS screen with CLI (Sell) or just a black and white AROS screen (here the AROS mouse pointer stops after a few seconds).

Hello, I tried but on the AROS early boot screen it only sees my floppy drive if my CF is plugged into the 4xIDE'99 interface, which is why it does not boot on apolloOS.
Unfortunately, I cannot use my CF, my hard disk and my CD-ROM drive with apolloOS.

I installed the latest core version on my V1200, normally it should be possible to use the motherboard IDE port and the vampire IDE port at the same time.
Is it possible to put two devices on the IDE port of the vampire with a three connector cable by correctly configuring the master / slave jumpers?

Yes, as I wrote before, I was only able to start the ApolloOS with a CF card. 2 devices can be connected to my V500 + board. They just need to be properly configured as master / slave. I also use the latest Gold 2.12 as a core. And I tried this with the last ApolloOS on August 31, 2020. Even with hard drive, CD-ROM, CD-RW and a MOD on the SCSI controller. The result is always the same. No matter what combination. Whereby all these devices work perfectly under AmigaOS 3.1.4 and AmigaOS 3.9 with all corresponding updates. All I know is that there is supposed to be a problem with the IDE connector on the V2 cards.
I've been waiting for a solution for a while now. So far nobody has contacted me. Because I would like to help with the development, as a tester it would certainly be possible. I've been working with the Amiga and PCs for over 30 years. This is my job and hobby. Please contact me if you are interested.

I`ve tried out this Image on my V4SA. It boots, but the screen was corrupted. Then i booted without startup-sequence and moved SAGA-Driver from /devs/monitors to /devs/storage/monitors. Now ApolloOS runs, but with 640x256 this Distribution was unusable. Changing the Screenmode is difficult because DirOPUS blocks changing the Screenmode on runtime with"use", only "save" works, but needs a reboot. Exists a plain AROS-Image with its own Workbench-replacement and without any extensions installed for the v4sa, wich fits on the original CF-Card?

did you update to the latest v4sa beta core? they made major changes to the graphics hardware on the 4vsa.. thats why.. you need both the new core and the matching graphics driver (ApolloOS has it already) ..

I'm using core SA_7383_AROS_rc9C.jic, Monitor is Dell 2709W. At the moment i'm writing ApolloOS_16GbF4D_0309.img to my CF-Card and give it a try later this weekend.

Edit: Tried it, same problem with corrupted screen, mousepointer is OK and works. Screenshot is done, can i upload it anywhere?

I think that core version is old 'RELEASE2_2020-09-03B.jic' is the most current one I know of and ApolloOS "ApolloOS_16GbF4D_0309".. I think after firmware core 7383 eg the "7649" series the hardware changed in a major way requiring a totally new driver to match it (likely why you see a "scrambled" screen).. you might want to get on the Vampire discord and get the download link for the most current versions of both the firmware core and the ApolloOS .. and I think that firmware core is also out of date.., it doesnt make much sense to try to debug any issues you have if they have already been fixed in later firmware core revisions and its a known problem if you dont update the core to match whats required in the later ApolloOS releases.

Your suggestion was right, i'm now online with my Vampire4SA the first time ever! ApolloOS looks fine and is well preconfigured. Display on Dell2413 is ok, but on Dell 2709W the display looks "zoomed", the Workbench-Menu is invisible and the other borders are also clipped by ca. 20 pixels.
