In 1988 it was KS 1.3 :)

In 2019, Seems m68k software is attractive to develop or backport from OS4 again :)
So AEON is likely to backport its gem "AmigaOS 4 Enhancer"

  ----------
  Original announcement 2018
  ----------
A 'Classic' edition of Enhancer for AmigaOS 3 is in the works. Users that want to help betatest it are asked to contact A-EON using enhancersoftware@amiga.org

  ----------
  Confirmation of expectation (Amiga.org)

  ----------
  Sidenotes
  ----------

  * Its likely its Enhancer v1.4 backported to m68k without Candy and RadeonHD drivers and Warp3DNova (Classes and main other components and improvements, like minimal edition sold for OS4).
*Will AmiStore with 68k software choices be included, remains to be seen.
  * Knowing Hyperions tactics, it might be likely it will require AmigaOS 3.1.4. Generation Amiga news item mentiones AmigaOS 3.9 as minimum.

It would be good if this could include AMMX support out of the box

they are promising that every other year. so what would be the content of that. come reaction classes replacements to run their pimped up prefs progams? i dontt think we need their warp3dnova or radeon hd drivers, that os4 users usually claim is the only reason to buy enhancer pack. what concerns "updated" software i propose you look up a.org threads about the interoduced bugs in exchange for  unnecessary features.

I must say Enhancer is one of better pieces of software for OS4. Its not the Candy, its not the Radeon HD drivers (altough useful), its that it fixes datatypes, format, multiview, tunenet and yes, adds some more classes as nice layout for future. Dock replacement was especially buggy and I have personally avoided using it. Putting an older icon format to it would make it disappear etc.
Early releases were bug ridden, and that is why its up to 1.4 now. Overall user impression was that OS4 is more bug ridden without enhancer then with it, provided Enhancer was updated (using format and some tools fixed by enhancer could guru OS4, Partition Wizard and SFS get fixed etc.). Updated Multiviewer, Exchanger and ClipViewer are quite good, useful and long needed. TuneNet is quite nice now and becomes nice multimedia player. For the first time no need for immediate multimedia player addon, even I do love AmigaAmp :)

It can be seen down to modernized classes and prefs plus few apps and datatypes. Clock is nice :) And yes, Prefs are way better organized. As of simple description, with "Time Guard" AmigaOS reads time from Internet (finally!). Has more small updates, fixes then OS 3.1.4.

Its not something "great", more like "Boing Bag".

Well, yes, but they do need another selling point without much effort, so backporting seems rational. On bugs, I see latest PPaint suffers bugs to, so question seems to be not so much will some Amiga software get release, but will it be maintained and bugfixed.

That would be nice, but no AEON/Hype software so far went 080/MMX. Other then that I dont see what there would benefit of recompile that much - maybe few datatypes and apps included. It would be best if mpega.library could get the recompile, since it is used by TuneNet and other apps.

I setup my own Amiga systems manually by hand, no idea what the Enhancer could do better. ;)

As long as the 080 has no accessible MMU and better development tools, there will be less special software. You can see it now, great user base, less developers who finish their projects.

I used to do just that, but over time I have grown a bit lazy and prefered nice starting points. When hardware was the same, I loved the Amiga feat of LZX pack of an entire SYS: that could be used for quick and fast "reinstalls" when needed :)

Point is that some modernized well, OS components, you cant get any other way.

Trevor acknowledged a OS 3.9 at least, or OS 3.9 + OS 3.1.4 update as requirement for OS3 Enhancer, so one could have OS 3.9,OS 3.1.4 and Enhancer feats as starting point. Too bad it cant be bundled as one pack.

"eXec: Our readers are wonder - what will be included in Enhancer for classic Amiga? Will it be working with version 3.1.4 and also 3.9?
TD: I should really get Matthew to answer this question as he coordinates A-EON's software development effort, liaises with developers and controls the distribution of software updates to the beta test team. Without giving any secrets away the Classic Enhancer Software package will be targetted at Classic AmigaOS systems which already have AmigaOS 3.9 installed. That includes Amiga emulation along with Amiga Classic clones such as Vampire and other suitable FPGA Amiga clones. So as long as AmigaOS 3.9 can be installed on top of OS3.1.4 to obtain all the reaction classes, etc, I don't see a problem."

Developers of new software, beyond some OS updates?:  OS4 has same, or even bigger problem. MorphOS and AROS too.

However, Classics always had the biggest userbase, so I expect that GOLD3 core enhancements even for V2 users and surely V4 standalone launch and better V2 and V4 availability just might offer the chance for more development.

MMU is not that much required as there are MMUless AmigaOS software tools that provide same functionality.
    Example, Apurify (Enforcer)
    EXTERNAL LINK
ApolloMMU should be better documented, true. Hope V4 space will bring 68k MMU compatibility at some point of core revision, like FPU came in V2 times - just to have compatibility out of box.
