Also PPC people see Vampire as "menace".
Companies like Hyperion want that people abandon the 68K and buy PPC systems. So every happy VAMPIRE owner is making these people less happy.

PPC people need to understand it's even more of a dead end than the 68k is right now...

Agreed. I was always anti-PPC. Preferred ARM. Great to see 68k making a comeback. Go Team APOLLO

This show serious lacks of understanding what Amiga-autoconfig is.

No AMIGA Mainboard uses AutoConfig.
Does A3000 use Autoconfig? No!

Does A500 use Autoconfig? No!
Does A1000 use Autoconfig? No!

Does the 68000 CPU use autoconfig? No!

Does the 68020 CPU on the A1200 use autoconfig? No!
Does the 68030 CPU on the A3000 use autoconfig? No!
Does the 68040 CPU on the A4000 use autoconfig? No!

Does the main memory on the A500 use autoconfig? No!

This "saying" shows lack of understanding how 68K CPU works and how this is announced on AMIGA.
Frankly someone talks here a lot of nonsense.

As I explained before the 68080 correctly implement the PCR register.
The OS will set flag $A in attention flags for it.

This is on purpose.

Extended mode is supported for loading and storing!
Extended mode is also supported for immediates! -- Which is better than 68060! The 68060 does crash on this!
All this is for backward compatibility.

The calculation is not done with extended precision.
As you all will know also INTEL and AMD do not do this anymore with SIMD.
Also POWER-PC does not support this.
And ARM does not do this.

Actually NO CPU today does this!
They all NOT do this on purpose.
So yes there is a good reason for this.

Meaning as Vampire is not pluggued in a Zorro II bus it does not need to use the AutoConfig protocol right?

Yes this is one part.

The other part is a Zorro card can be turned off or moved to another location in memory.
This is OK for e.g. some expansion cards but makes zero sense for the main CPU.

Also mainboard memory is available during reset - Zorro memory will go away.

Because of these technical reasons the Vampire mounts the CPU and the memory as mainboard units as designed by Commodore.

The new vampiremaprom314 (posted by Simo) works perfectly. No need of 68040 library anymore. AfaOs is working too now (don't know if is related to vampiremaprom but before I had problems with skins). Thanks to H.Richter!! Apollo team rules!

the picture is that you don't understand/know how 68k cpu and Amiga work.

Well the A2000 was the only machine to require it, which isn't listed there. Plus it's fresh to tell Gunnar he doesn't know how a 68k CPU works as he designs CPUs for a living and leads this whole Apollo core/vampire thing on the side.

he works on a Softcpu that is much different from real one. A real card don't need firmware to run on Amiga, first of all. Any Amiga from 68030 to 68060 work with mmu lib. If you design a sofcpu 68060 based you have also replicate any features and at the same time also much faster.
Instruction set on 68080 it could better than original, but AmigaOS is not designed to run in this way, so you must develop a new exec for this new type or processor.

Now you have to force to have dual monitor: one for old chipseet and one for saga one. And also this is seen like not much Amiga experience in modern card. If you know that amiga never worked in this way you have to change totally your design.

This Apollo core thing is his part time hobby, It's not his full time job. You should check on his actual work experience before making dumb claims on his abilities.

i not doubt about his general computing and engineering knoledge because is clear what he do with a FPGA. Maybe has some little knowledge in Amiga hardware side and how it working.

Or maybe he has a lot more knowledge than you do, you're making some strong assumptions about skills and knowledge based on your opinion of how a niche Amiga Accelerator should operate without any prior knowledge of the project scope, implementation and the limitations involved. Spend 15+ years working on your own FPGA Amiga core, then comeback and have this conversation.
