It seems it's not absolutely necessary to use the KS 3.1.4 ROM for OS 3.1.4 as, if you have an older KS 3.1 ROM (or the Vampire ROM in this case), the OS can still be installed but you will need to use the included Modules Disk in the installation.

The modules disk is mainly provided for users who don't have another option. On Amigas with old ROMs, partition size restrictions for the boot partition still apply. This is not the case on Vampire.

You still may install 3.1.4 with loadable modules instead of Flashing or Mapping the ROM. Only one restriction is present in that case: exec.library must be excluded (i.e. renamed or deleted from libs:<Amiga_Model_specific_subdirectory>/exec.library).

Please bear in mind that loadable modules use up RAM that could be utilized otherwise, while MapROM on the other hand doesn't require additional RAM.

On the EAB forum post it is stated: "We recommend the A1200 bundle for Vampire owners." So would that mean we would need to use the "ModulesA1200_3.1.4" instead of "ModulesA600_3.1.4" (for V600) or "ModulesA500_3.1.4" (for V500)?
EDIT: Apparently ROM chips will be released a little later.

The bundles include a ROM image, not only the modules disk. I've successfully tested the A500, A600 and A1200 Kick images on my Vampires. Physical ROMs in the Amiga will still be ignored by the Vampire in either case.

Personally, I'd choose to buy the version that fits best to the majority of Amigas in one's household.

Well I have bought 3.1.4 but cant use it till the next update of Gold 2.10 or release of 2.11.
Also does anyone know how this will affect Coffin OS or will there be a separate build for those with 3.1.4?

I bought A1200 version as suggested in web page. Lets see what happend when I try it in the evening.

In my opinion price was quite cheap. I'm always ready to pay even more if it is quality product for Amiga.

Finally the mystic Hyperion link
  EXTERNAL LINK
  24,96 € for a minor update !!! No thanks!
Hype/AEON are starting to be quite expensive production companies!

I find 39.90€ for OS 3.9 far more complete package.

Note: Please update Apollo link to useful info EXTERNAL LINK
Sidenote: Is it planned that Apollo for itself, supports 1MB ROM+

Moving essential stuff to ROM is real Amigans dream - at beast edition if basics of  Coffin/OS 3.9++ could be loaded instantly from ROM, providing almost insta boot and restart.

That could be Vampires large +1

29,90 € incl. vat is not expensive. The developers and betatester had done a lot of work for a great update

The cost for 3.1 is about the same
3.1 roms around 15 euro

OS 3.x was delivered with machines, so was price inclusive.

Currently, OS 3.x is 17 eur with CF card
  https://www.vesalia.de/e_workbench31cfedition[8561].htm

  16e for floppies
  EXTERNAL LINK
So, it has almost double price for digital d/l

Depends where do you live and how do you look at it. If it really was a Standalone improved OS to OS 3.5/OS 3.9, an OS 3.9++ it would have upgrade value.

20eur is price of e.g.Kaspersky Antivirus annual paymenet, which a lot of people have worked harder. Or a price of a bit older but very decent game on Steam.

Even in AmigaOS 4 world its more then Gorky 17 or AmigaOS 4.1FE.

End note:

In choice of OS 3.1 vs OS 3.1.4 its affordable

As vs OS 3.9, I find OS 3.9 far better value pack.

Vojin: you can desrespect Hyperion (they surely deserve that), but not the developers that have done this upgrade for free (they will take no money on it)

I am NOT disrespecting the great old OS 3.x developers hired by Hyperion, in fact I have more assurance in them then if Friedens have taken to do that (and time from announcement to release prove it).

I just complain on end user price vs what is in the bag. In fact it was set up as small scale project from beginning (equals more of money milking then OS 3.x progression).

Also, beside Vamp ROM support, no component seems to be 040+ optimized, which is ridiculous for modern 68k times. Its more a bugfix release, then a real standalone. It seems more targeted at retro gamers and WinUAE users then deserve to have a better starting point.

That is just I, keep buying it, OS 3.1.6 might be next.

In all honesty, the fact I can natively partition and format Media greater than 4 GB is worth the price of the upgrade. No hacks or patches required anymore. This was my biggest annoyance with 3.1. I like to use 3.1 for base installs that do not need 0S 3.9. It's faster and less resource  hungry. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. This this topic will always be one of differing opinions.

Oh I agree its great substitute for A1200 starter system. But long long time ago I have upgraded A1200 to CD/HDD/faster CPU/Fast RAM/OS 3.5 and never looked back.

I am glad they are charging what they are for OS 3.1.4 and I hope they make a ton of money on it so that we will see further development on it in the future.

It might stablize Hyperion, and hopefully they will do what they own to us and I - OS 4.2, Libre, x1000 ethernet.device even Timberwolf up to FF16 (whereby they collected bounty and never finished product).

On OS 3.1.4 there is a FAQ on Aminet
EXTERNAL LINK
I will just paste REQUIREMENTs as basic info
Plain A1200 cant run it due to Fastmem req.

What are the hardware requirement for AmigaOS 3.1.4?

1. Kickstart ROM 3.1.4 (desirable), or a an old 3.1 Kickstart ROM. We recommend the former as it will boot faster, will require less RAM,
and also includes fixes in the hardware configuration process - and
the latter cannot be replaced by code loaded from disk.

2. 2 MB of total memory. Total memory is calculated by adding up
ChipMem and FastMem altogether.

3. 5 MB of free hard disk space.

And of course, an Amiga is needed. We cannot ensure that Os 3.1.4
operates correctly under emulation since we cannot control these
environments. We tried, however, our best to keep it as compatible as possible.

Wrong. Let's try again.

"Total memory is calculated by adding up

2 MB is 2 MB. Chip+Fast or only Chip. The only thing not working: FastRam only. But you knew that, don't you? :-)

Yes, with ROM you could do it with 1-1.5MB Chip/Slow Fast only. But performance would be so Z80 style.
So more realistically, real fast RAM is mandatory. More the marrier.

No, I'd know that. :)

An A500 with a 3.1.4 ROM, 1 MB Chip and no FastRam will be as fast (probably faster) as the same configuration with a 3.1 ROM. The only difference would be the loss of 193 kb for loading workbench.library and icon.library.

Please refrain from posting that Z80 BS if you'd like people to take you seriously.
