You might have seen many recent game video uploaded.

The SAGA/AGA chipset is working and feature complete.

The team is right now very active testing Amiga OCS/ECS/AGA games
to tweak and polish AGA game compatibility.

The plan is to release the first public SAGA/AGA Cores this summer.

Features:

  * Upgrade all AMIGAs to 2 MB Chipmem (or more)
  * Upgrade all AMIGA to AGA chipset
  * Video and Audio over DIGITAL-VIDEO
  * No flicker fixers needed to use modern TVs/monitors

Isn't this basically Gold 3?
Great news indeed.

The SAGA blitter has to be really fast though, as the 68080 CPU is also very fast at such tasks that blitter typically performs. The A500/A1200 blitter is very slow and even a 68030 running in fast ram and transferring results to chip ram is way faster than the blitter for e.g. pixel shifting and cookie cut operations. 68030-68060 CPUs were never much used to replace the blitter operations on AGA systems, as coders never learned how to use the faster CPUs to make e.g. software sprites.

But using blitter and CPU in parallell, brings certainly more performance, if memory bandwidth permits that. And it looks to me like that with the relatively slow clock speed of 68080 (~100 MHz).

Is this going to make the chipram expansions totally obsolete or is it going to work together with it. I guess it will still be useful for the RTC if nothing else

By what was announced so far (unless changed) its suposed to be a complete replacement done in Vampire FPGA.

This is correct.
Old chipmem expansions will not work anymore - they can not handle the AGA requirements.
Also any flicker fixer cards you might currently use - will stop working with the AGA core.

Will the clock module on a A604n still work

Yeah I got an old chipram expansion in my A600. Would like for the RTC to carry on working.

Was going to get an A604n just to use for the clockport expansion as Spidi is currently working on a clockport to SPI expansion and making drivers for RTC, USB, Network etc so quite liked the idea of getting one

Yup, I have a supercharged A600 and I'm worried some of these extension will stop working with the new core:

* A604n. I need the RTC and the clockport.
* RapidRoad USB. It is connected to the A604n clockport.
* Sum USB keyboard (https://retro.7-bit.pl/?lang=en&go=projekty&name=sum_a600)

I also have the Indivision ECS, but I guess AGA will render it obsolete.

Yes, it will be obsolete and will stop working.
The chipmem expansion will be obsolete too.

The Clockport should work normally.

Some Questions related to the audio over hdmi from my side.

- Is there a AHI Driver to play 16bit Audio?
- the new soundchip (called pamela?) is fully backward compatible to paula? so protracker, demos and games play nice with it?
- will be increase of sound quality when playing games and demos?
