From what I've heard there'll be a V500 and V500+, who's to say the V500+ specs wouldn't be 512/1024MB? We'll have to wait and see. :)

| Be ready for the Vampire 500 and 500+. A special CPU slot adapter allows even the most ghastly varta damaged A2000 to work with the Vampire range, provided the traces are all still intact. Stick the Vampire into the CPU card slot holder and plop the assembly into the CPU slot. No more fishing for 26 year old $600 GVP 030 cards and overpriced proprietary ram on ebay... Gigglesnort... Here is a nice Vampire sticker for my A2000 EXTERNAL LINK

Hi Amiga 4Life,You're very very right.... When one opens 3, 4 or even 5 screens at 720 P, that'll use up lots of RAM right there! They're a TINY group of people developing this... they can't keep making multiple various circuit board designs :-((( AMIGA'S potential has never been fulfilled... we'll get there.

| @Thierry , i was using my a2000 for a digital sampler drum kits, multi layered/split piano samples and sound effects, 128mb is nothing. 16bit samples eats AMiga ram for breakfast. also, you need more ram if your using midi sequencing and audio hard disk recording apps.. Technically the a500 & a2000 are the same machines but they are used by two different type of users....you dont play games with a a2000. Not many games support audio & Rtg cards, This is a pre-production media machine you take into studios..

But if you look it at this way...thanks to the Vampire 500...the A500 is identical to the A2000 with exception of lack of zorro cards which you no longer need. Since the A500 now have build in RTG cards and in the future will have 16 bit audio support. But you are limited to that 128 MB which you clearly said is nothing for samples and sound effects production. As for games...I am hoping there will come more games that do support RTG. But why do you say you don't play games with an A2000. It is more than capable of running all the games of the A500 just fine on it...you can technically play games on the A2000 as well as do all your productions....there is nothing stopping you from doing it. Unless in your mind...you have set certain roles for each machine and will refuse to break these roles that is something completely different. But in technicality, you can have only one Amiga...an Amiga 2000 for example, play all games your heart content, watch videos, radio stream, do documents and as well as do digital sample drun, blah blah blah. You could be one of those people who assign each Amiga a certain task and thus you need more than one.

| I think what he was trying to say is you wouldn't find an A500 in a studio back in that era. Sure there are always exceptions, and you might run into one on a rare occasion, assuming they had the required peripherals to attach a video toaster (or whatever else/additional) cards they would need, to it. Games are typically used by home users, and the price difference between the two models during that era, would have put many more A500 units in homes, than A2000s. Again- always exceptions to any rule, but generally speaking, this would have been the case. It's not that an A2000 "couldn't" play games. It certainly could. So can my DELL PowerEdge 2900 server with 2 Xeon processors. It wasn't it's "intended" use from a design standpoint, however.

interesting post. * How many seconds of sample do you need to work productively?

K. Good point. But what about now? Would you say the samething for now?

| I wouldn't. In fact, I wish I would have kept one of my A2000s I restored instead of my A500, so I could add to it more easily... but then again, I wouldn't have access to as good of accelerators (for a while longer at least) ;) so it's a win/win in the end I guess.

I just wanted to inform you that there is no V2000 specific. The Vampire 500 works by default with Amiga 500, Amiga 2000, Amiga 2500 and Amiga 1000 respectively. There is already a Vampire for A2000 and it is called Vampire 500.

| Very cool! Well, maybe I should have kept my A2000 then... Oh well, the A500 is nice, just the same (and smaller/lighter) ;)

@gunnar.. this is House music...16bit samples...ok let say i have a sampled (acoustic piano) keyboard split across 5 octaves all notes sampled at 44khz for 8sec.. (44khz x 2) x 8sec = 705,600 bytes (1 sampled key)....60 keys x 705kbytes = 42MBs.... Saxophone samples split across 2 octaves with 2 layers (loud and soft)... (44khz x 2) x 8sec = 705,600 bytes (1 sampled key)....48 keys x 705kbytes = 33MBs... Bass guitar samples split across 2 octaves with 2 layers (loud and soft)... (44khz x 2) x 5sec = 441,000 bytes (1 sampled key)....48 keys = 21MBs... Drum kit (kick, snare, hihat open/close,Tom 1/2/3,shaker,cowbell,crash,claps,rim shot)...1 octave.. (44khz x 2) x 2sec = 176,400 bytes (1 sampled key)....12 keys = 2MBs... sometimes the chorus is created with the sampler, the lead vocal is sampled, copied, filtered and played slightly out tune multiple times get that thick sound... 98MB eaten up, I haven't even done my chorus samples... dont get me wrong 128MB is a lot ram, but that limit can easly be pushed when your sampling instruments... todays professional samplers (emu,Roland) maximum ram is 128MB, so its not uncommon to have drum/keyboard kits with 90 to 100MB of samples....

| @john williams.... A a500 wouldn't really be used in a (music)studio setting cause it didn't have the flexibility and the cpu power that an a2000 had...Blizzard 2060@50khz, Sunrize studio with multiple ad516's will give you multiple in/out,smpte,48khz hard disk recordings, scsi for access to professional samplers with SMDI compatibilities,Rtg card for a bigger and faster desktop.... the a2000 user will demand more power for what they're trying to accomplish...

| @Amiga 4Life So: How many RAM do you have in your A2000? With Blizzard 2060?

| two questions about IDE controller onboard: -1) Are you sure SysInfor (last 3.24 version) is a good tool benchmark ? I have seen many problems (and unaccurate results) using it in AmigaOS3.9 (es. with last boingbags). -2) the IDE controller It's not DMA I think, so how much about CPU use itself ? thanks for the answares

Huh... You must read Gunar more carefully: He mentioned performance impact when some DMA occurs in Amiga and all CPU cache must be refreshed (included pipelines). So please don't cry that IDE doesn't use DMA! Nadyr wrote:

hello Szyk Cech sorry, so why Is It used in the second screenshot of this thread an image of Sysinfo 3.24 about throughput IDE controller ?. Can you please tell me the post about Gunnar's DMA infos ? (thanks).

Maybe because many users like it and use it... nadyr nick wrote:

No. I try "site CLICK HERE gunnar dma" (site:apolloUrl gunnar dma) but it doesn't show what I was read. Maybe he wrote post about DMA on IRC (I can't recall - it was about half year ago).
